Yard Update

Thought I would share some photos to show where things are with the yard and all the flowers and such...

My husband plants a lot of the same plants each year.. plants we love like petunias and verbena..

but he always enjoys adding something new to the mix. This years newbie is Agapanthus.. Lily of the Nile.  These plants grow sooo tall!  We have to whose blooms are just about to open that are easily 3 feet or more. We have 2 others (pictured below) that are not as tall and have nice open blooms.   I love the soft lavender / lilac color.

We have Asiatic Jasmine in our bed and I love it!  It has spread and filled in some bare spots and is so rich and lush with color. I really do love it!

And I shared earlier about our confederate jasmine. It continues to grow and bloom profusely!  Love it too!

When we planted these beds years ago, my husband's new discovery was Anthony Waterer Spirea.  We planted two and have enjoyed watching them grow and bloom with these bright pinky-purple flowers.

A few years later we planted a third... only to discover its blooms are white and a lighter purple.  We love them both.

As always I have herbs growing and yes, I use them in cooking!  In fact last weekend our son used some of the mint to make Blueberry-Mint-Lemonade.  I, for some reason, failed to snap a photo of the mint or the oregano... but here are the other 3 we have this year..

Isn't this thyme lovely.. so green!

Rosemary... one of my favorites!

Basil... ranks up there with Rosemary!  I use a bunch of both of these,

While out in the yard, I noticed the blue birds going in and out of the house.  Couldn't catch the Mr. but got a nice shot of the Mrs.

The day before these photos were taken we had some rain and wind.  Our River Birches always loose some twigs and such. A nice size limb fell that day. Mia had to investigate, but deemed it safe and went on to better things.

Be Joy-filled!

Petunias in March!

I love Petunias.. always have.. and we pretty much always put some around the yard in pots in the summer for their big splash of color.  At the end of summer, my husband just left the pots in the beds.  Normally he takes removes them and cleans everything out to get the pot ready for next year. .. but for some reason he just did not get that done this year.. and I, for one, am glad!  Why? Because much to our surprise, the petunias (which we dead and gone from what could be seen), have come back out in the pots and are blooming!  In March!  It is fun to see  both petunias and pansies blooming at the same time!  Not the norm here at all.

Look at these beautiful blooms...

Flowers!

I live in the deep South... so fall is a stranger to me. I love the pictures I see of autumn... I love the thought of it and the little teasing hints we get in October... but it is a rare treat here to have all that glorious fall color.  But what we lack in the fall, we make up for in the Spring!  Here are a few shots of the things blooming and growing at my house.

Our regular azaleas bloomed several weeks ago (didn't get any pix!) but we have some late bloomers in the back yard.. in fact, these bloom several times a year.  The buds have just started teasing us with color this week. I am hopeful that next week they will be full of red blooms!
My husband fell in love with Foxgloves when we were walking through the nurseries over the past few weeks, so we now have several planted in pots around the yard with yellow lantana and white and purple petunias.  The flowers on the foxgloves are so delicate and fragile looking to me.

Here is a bit of the yellow lantana... a nice punch of color!

I adore Petunias!

                                                       Hubby loves salvia...

We both like verbena... I chose PINK this year (my friends know why!  LOL!)... it looks really great with the bright green sweet potato vine leaves!

Or with a bit of sunshine lighting it up...

Take time to stop and enjoy the flowers in your life today!
